The Royal Yeomanry receiving their new Guidon
The Royal Yeomanry receiving their new Guidon, in the grounds of Buckingham Palace in the presence of their Royal Honorary Colonel, Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra.
Does anyone know what collar badges are being worn on their patrol blues? Mick

I think the collar badges are Westminster Dragoons - Command and Support Squadron.

All the Squadrons are wearing their own collars..... each of the Squadrons still retain their old Guidon. The new regimental Guidon combines "all"..... I am still waiting for an official image of both sides.
I am not 100% but I think the first issue cap badge (large) on a bottle green patch is now being used as the NCO arm badge across all squadrons. A very bland uniform..... considering its a Yeomanry Cavalry regiment.

Correction to my last..... it was a crown I was seeing not an NCO arm badge.
Note the WD L/Cpl has his collars and his cross belt has the WD badge on the pouch. Holding an officers sword.... sign of the times, anything goes. Note also the Staff Sgt and the SSM (RMLY Sqn) are wearing officer cross belts? --- The RY leading the Cav' Memorial Parade in the smoke.

I was under the impression in both the Royal and Wessex Yeomanry the issue of the new Regimental Guidon will see the old Regimental ones laid up.

Well each Squadron will not get a new one..... so they will fade away over time. When the Regiment is on parade then the RY Guidon will be used (instead of 5 Guidons)...... Squadrons will still use their Guidons locally.

Correction to my last.... "All" the old Squadron Guidons are being laid up..... thats it ..... the county yeomanry is a thing of the past. What we have left is an "outpost".... soon for the chop more than likely. Its a sad day..... the only insignia left is the collar badge..... a small reminder.

Here is the new Guidon Gents...
Leicestershire's "FREZENBERG" is there along with their other WW1 & WW2 honours..... and the Arty badge. NB:- The general opinion is that the old Sqn Guidons "will" be kept on for local parades

I asked because I read on the RWY Regimental Minutes that the Guidon was in need of repair and the funding for this was questionable considering it was likely soon to be laid up.
As you say a great pity that all the old Yeomanry Cap Badges have been scrapped. Similarly in the ACF the powers that be want everyone wearing the ACF Cap Badge. Lots of opposition but it will happen eventually. |
