Default Royal Highlanders sgts

Five Sgts:the first two Edwardian the next two typical studio poses WW1.
The last SNCO 1st Battalion Royal Highlanders note the Victorian glengarry
badge with 42 numeral centre. This picture was taken at Farnborough station
on 18-8-1914,the day the 1st Battalion left for France.

Default fot Vincent

First badge a Victorian example as per the photo.
The second 1902-36 version with swallow-tail scrolls by Anderson & sons.
The last 1936-45 version solid silver with gilt overlay by Anderson & sons.

Random observations.
Apart from both the distance judging star(?) on his right arm sleeve and the marksman crossed rifles(?) on his left arm the amazing thing is that the BW sgt. in your first photo seems te be having both the ribbon and pin on the front of his kilt.

The sgt. in the second photo seems to be wearing the badged glengarry of a bandmember, yet no discernible bandmember badges.

the s/sgt. in the 4th photo wears a non-scottish service dress jacket with his kilt, lacking the rounded off skirt fronts.

Hi

Are you certain of the date of the photo of the Sergeant at Farnborough station? Is it written on the photo perchance as the date of the 18th August does not seem right!

Written on back of postcard in pencil is Fanborougn 13.8.14,my eyesight is
not what it was. Printed on the front the Black Watch leaves Aldershot.
