Very interesting indeed. Any idea of the date for it?

I don't have a specific date for the postcard. But according to another thread on this site the non voided badge was in production , I think, late ww1.

Thanks. The hat looks pre war to me but he might just be wearing an old hat. Alan |

I have a photo of a Manchester Regiment man in "Kitchener Blues" (a dark blue uniform anyway) with Imperial Service tablet, and wearing a dark coloured peaked cap with lighter piping (presumably dark blue with red piping) and what appears to be an unvoided cap badge.
Unfortunately an undated photo. |

I have always assumed, rightly or wrongly that the bi-metal non-voided badge was a wartime economy. I do not have any proof other than that they always seem to appear in WW1 period photos when seen.
It is often confused with the non-voided bronzed brass cap badge of the Manchester City Service Battalions, particularly in old black and white photos. regards

I think it’s a denim tench cap like this one https://www.dearoldblighty.com/en-GB...9#.XKZOHKTTWaM
Albeit not impossible he looks very young to be a pre-war territorial. Interesting photo thanks for showing. |

The cap doesn't have the stitching reinforcement of the "Blighty" soft peaked one shown in the link.
Is he really too young for prewar TF do you think? The TF was very much a social activity at the time. |

Two distinct variations of the non voided bi-metal Manchester Regiment can be found.
One thats perfect and one with a long vertical die flaw running up the centre of the City coat of arms. regards

I think I can see a couple lines of stitching on the peak. The cap for sale appears to have thicker and thinner lines of stitching, the one at the top of the band is particularly thick, although you can’t see the bottom line of stitching because of the leather strap I’d wager it’s similarly ‘thicker’... know that isn’t the term but I’ve managed to avoid watching The Great British Sewing Bee.
In the pic I can see a thick line bottom of the band and just about one top. Seems to have air vent holes in same place and a seam centreline above the band. Maybe it’s my eyes. As for his age... perhaps. Maybe I’m just getting old?!?! |

I'm not going to disagree (for fear you'll add a 50% surcharge for anyone named Kitchen on your future sales posts).

Haha! Happy for you to disagree, just a theory and happy to be proved wrong.
Here’s a couple pics of the same hat in monochrome, black and white etc with the saturation/lighting altered. The stitches become less apparent even though it’s a very close up and high resolution pic. But could be wrong. |

Saturated lights? At this time of night? After 2/3rds of a bottle of Havana Club, neat, on an empty stomach? Really? Hola....
All look the same to me when they stop spinning. But nah, still not seeing the similarity. But then that could be because I'm viewing the images on a phone. |
