Presumably a HLI volunteer battalion but I can't find it !
I would be grateful if anyone could help to positively identify this one. I have not been able to find it anywhere ! The central letters appear to be LVR

It is a reproduction Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers glengarry.

Many thanks for that. Can you advise the tell tale signs that it is a repro ? The lugs did have me a bit worried but is there anything else that I should have spotted ?

In a word everything.
The metal quality and colour are not correct for a badge of that period, neither are the loops. The detail and rendering of the design features of badge itself are crude lacking typical period quality e.g. monogram and crown in particular. Lastly the die flaws and lack of sharpness to star and cross detail are never good signs. Casting my mind back I do not think I have ever seen a genuine example of this particular pattern. Don’t think it’s in Bloomer’s book either, but if I’m mistaken in that assertion I’m sure someone will correct me. |

Hi Luke,
it is in Bloomers, hidden away page 57 of his second book. Described as OR`s Glengarry and Helmet plate centre.

Thanks for the correction Dave. Alas I don’t have his second book.
Is the badge he illustrates from a different die per chance? |

Not a very large illustration in Bloomers but the detail appears much sharper and the crown also appears to have a flatter `Delhi Derby` style to it.

Thanks again Dave. I will have to try and source a picture as I’d be interested to see it.

Many thanks, that is helpful. The details of the jewels in the crown is indistinct (they merge into each other) and it does have a slightly "soft" look overall in terms of details. However I have never seen an original of this badge so nothing to compare it with !

I think it is a bit more precise to say 9th Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteer Corps (taking into account the huge number of Lanarkshire RVCs).

To the gentleman who sent me a PM about this, apologies I have not replied. I am not ignoring you but the system does not appear to be allowing me to send PMs at the moment !
