Large The Buffs
There is an old thread on the forum showing and attributing this very large and handsome Buffs badge, but for the life of I cannot find it after hours of searching.
Could someone in the know please remind me of its purpose, who wore it and when or direct me to the original thread. It’s large and similar to the pagri badge but with the additional scroll. |

Thank you Mike Vee! Yes that’s the one, great IT skills.
Mistakenly thought a conclusion had been reached. Thanks Keith, I agree a very striking badge. |

Luke,
I often find that oversized and differently shaped Regimental Badges were those worn on bandsman's cases etc. Many also had loops rather than screw posts. IF there isnt a known Buffs Bandsman's case badge then I think its a contender. regards

I have seen a photo of NCOs and ORs in India in the very late 1890s that shows the standard size cap badge being worn on the front of the FSH.
I do not know if officers had anything like the badge in question, but I am leaning towards Simon's pouch theory. CB

Thanks very much.
I’ve found a website page with pictures of The Buffs band from the early 1900s onwards. I’ll drop the site owner an email to ask if pouch badges are visible in any of his pics as the resolution is a little low online. |

I think a silver brooched badge like this was just listed on the latest Bosley's auction and labelled as an officer's pagri badge. I don't feel like looking through the catalogue to check whether is was exact but if somebody want's to compare, they can look.

Thanks Alex, I think you mean this one which is quite different.
https://www.easyliveauction.com/cata...tiques-lot-69/ The dragon and torse on badge appears to be made from the other ranks pagri badge, but struck in WM, and with the addition of ‘The Buffs’ scroll. |

Thats a reason I dont go with the Officers FSH badge etc and lean towards a bandsmans case badge. regards
