Can You Identify the Regiment?
This has been an unknown item for many years as the regimental marking has never been identified. The khaki slide suggests Middle East or Indian/SEAC use
It has been suggested that it may be that of an Indian cavalry regiment. I am also posting it in the Indian Army section to increase the chances of an answer. Thoughts appreciated. Jon |

Jon,
For some reason I'm thinking Australian. Clay |

Jon, I think this is a Officer of the EFI/NAAFI as part of the RASC/RAOC I believe.
There is a formation sign in these colours for the above. I will post a picture this evening once I get home form work. Jerry

Found an old thread showing NAAFI patches.
https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ead.php?t=8340 "NAAFI staff also served onboard Royal Navy ships, they wore No 8 naval action working dress with epaulette slides with the NAAFI badge on it."

According to "The Empire's Waggoners"
"On the outbreak of the Second World War, the civilian status of NAAFI personnel caused problems when serving with the forces overseas. This was overcome by forming Expeditionary Force Institutes in which male NAAFI personnel were enlisted into the RASC, wearing RASC uniforms with EFI titles (figure 2406 - "EFC" embroidered in black on khaki slip on). Female NAAFI members were similarly enlisted into the "ATS" and those serving on board naval ships were enlisted into the RNVR". |

Thanks for the thoughts but I don't think it's NAAFI.
Male NAAFI staff were uniformed members of the RASC, the female staff who joined them later members of the ATS. The only recorded badges for these people were EFI (Expeditionary Force Institutes) arm titles and slip-ons. The tri-coloured shield was worn by certain NAAFI staff at home who adopted a unique NAAFI uniform in 1940. Jon |

As a Major in the EFI/RASC etc he could have easily had the shoulder epaulettes made and wore them, could he not??

Hi Jon, I was following Jerry's train of thought when I found the NAAFI thread and also a shield badge on Sally Bosley's site.
https://www.sallybosleysbadgeshop.com/shop.php?ps=1# After your post I also found a photo of what is described as " an officer's shoulder rank" in a lot titled "NAAFI Insignia Grouping". http://www.homefrontcollection.com/photos/10300.jpg Edit : Could the one on your slide be upside down , the two patches in the NAAFI thread appear to be a 'matching pair' (diagonal stripe L/R) ? .

Mike, I took a look at Bosleys site and quite liked the Andover NAAFI badge so I brought it.
