Possible Arab badge?
Anybody got any ideas? It's an Arab crown but the palm leaf is most usually a symbol of Palestine? Libya pre 1953?

Eddie,
I believe this to be Kingdom of Libya. Not certain but think it is the general cap badge during the King Idris period 1951-1969. Not having documented proof of this it would pay to get confirmation from others. Rgds Quicksilver |

Hi Eddie,
The revised edition of The Armed Forces of Aden and the Protectorate 1839-1967 is in the publishers queue and I understand wont be published until early New Year. My other book Invaluable Service, which is a history of Electronic Warfare by New Zealand since 1916 to 1945 is also with another publisher and that should be out in the New Year too. This covers interception of Turkish military signals in 1916/17 and interception and decryption of Japanese military communications in World War II and the direction finding of Germany Warships in the Atlantic (believe it or not). Hi
2) The second badge is the royal cypher of KINGDOM of LIBYA (1951-1969) so should be used by a guard unit ? >Kingdom_of_Libya 1952-69.jpg 1) The first badge looks like a naval item, indeed ; However, it does not match with the LIBYAN NAVY !!! >Libye_51_v.jpg Libyan crown had a star + crescent on crest - like the pre-1953 Egyptian - The shape of the crown with its pick (peak ?) is or was employed by : = the JORDANIAN KINGDOM : >Jordanie_v.jpg = the SAUDI ARAB KINGDOM (old pattern ; the present crown is more angled): >Arabie_2_v.jpg = the SULTANATE OF OMAN (old pattern before 1995): >Oman Navy Officers.jpg = the KINGDOM of IRAQ (1924-1958): >Kingdom_of_Iraq_coat.png but, as almost all navies in this area are showing an anchor, I don't see the reason for the presence of this bird !! is it possible to get a better view of the bird to check if this is an eagle or an hawk or something else (a duck, a turkey ) ? a+

Here is a much better picture of the naval badge. I thought the eagle was standing on an anchor but it is in fact a sword. Also he has an Arabic inscription on his chest.
Jordanian? Saudi? Anyone? Eddie |

Eddie,
I think this one is Saudi, I believe the Saudi's are the only ones to incorporate the sword with the falcon. If this not a Naval Officer's badge, it may be for the "Royal Yacht". Just a thought. Clay |

Just caught up with this thread.
Eddie do you have the badge that started this thread in staybrite? I believe there are also collar badges of the same design. What are the dimensions of your brass badge?

I had acquired one of these badges very discretely many years ago when working in Libya. It's supposed to belong to the Libyan Border Guards of King Idris (pre-1969).
