The listing mentions it is silver anodized, making it the piper's version.

Quote:
Er, yes; you are missing something. I have inquired with the seller re: colour of badge being silver or possibly light gold and he has stated that it is silver. As such, and quite correctly noted by John, the badge is, if actually coloured silver, a Pipers version which is a very rare badge indeed. CB No. 7933, Pattern No. 17328; first authorised via Change C8299 of 31st October 1957. Can't sell you a book about all this sort of thing can I... Regards Chris |

anodised
Just arrived in the post the badge which was the subject of this post I paid £14.26 previously sold for £74.00 I suspect the original buyer returned this item as they were unhappy with its colour It is not a true silver colour and if gold so faint as nearly undetectable When I purchased this I did not know it was the same seller and can understand why it was listed as silver I have a reasonable collection of a/a badges including many scarce examples & early k.c but nothing like this My friend Eddie has a silver a/a example so i will be able to get a comparison . Hello all
It would be interesting to know if this is the exact same badge or whether the seller had two and just hit the 'relist' button, using the same photo and same description, in order to save time. It wouldn't be the first time that a second 'rare' item on ebay went for a lot less than the first one. Regards Roger |

In exactly the same way rare 'silver' Wessex badges exist. Actually the examples always turn out to be blanched gold ones!

HI Cribyn and Alan O
Cribyn I did read the description very carefully at under £15 .00 worth a punt [average is approx £10.00 for the gold type ] I was very please to obtain this variation/silver??? item for my collection Alan O added some old photos of my Wessex collection in gallery and my album a number of items since added Regarding the silver wessex a/a badge I have an example on a beret obtained from a major in R.H.Q +most of the items on the 2 Wessex board following the disbandment of Wessex Regiment Regards David |

That's as may be but the silver ones were not deliberately that colour as the only sealed pattern was gold.

Mine is certainly not blanched gold Alan.

The sealed pattern remains gold I am afraid. Any 'silver' fall outside what the sealed pattern was supposed to be. As such they should not command a premium price. Neither should the Queen's OTC badge that started the thread off.
