Default St. Andrews University O.T.C.

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have or has anyone ever seen an A/A St. Andrews University O.T.C. cap badge - note O.T.C. not U.T.C.

This badge will probably have (if it exists) a St. Edward (Queen's) Crown.

Regards

Chris

No Chris, only ever seen a kc UTC.
Have noticed that the gold colour was darker than other gold coloured badges
I dont know what year the unit was amalgamated into Tayforth.

Birmingham and Sheffield badges exist as UTC and OTC.

Thanks Neil, Mike.

The St. Andrew's University OTC is noted in the List of Changes (LoC) change C 8300 of 31st October 1957 as replacing the St. Andrew's University UTC which was Tudor Crowned.

"NEW PATTERN. A pattern (No. 17341) has been sealed to govern future manufacture. It differs from the old (No. 14576, Cat. No. CB 3287 (C 4717)) in that the scroll is inscribed "O.T.C." and the crown is the St. Edward design."

It is also noted in the CCN of 1963 describes as 'St. Andrew's University OTC'.

Following the CCN of 1963 it is described only as 'St. Andrews University' up to and including the COSA of 1985. However, it was replaced officially on 18th January 1971 by the 203rd meeting of the Ministry of Defence (Army Department) Army Dress Committee by the Tayforth Universities O.T.C. badge.

However, I don't think that the St. Andrew's University OTC was ever made and that there were existing stocks of the Tudor crowned UTC version to keep up with issue demands until the Tayforth Universities O.T.C. badge replaced it.

Hence my thread here - if anyone has seen or better still has one then please can they post here.

Many Thanks

Chris

Just noticed this on e..y,although not a hat badge.
ST-ANDREWS-UNIVERSITY-OTC-OFFICER-CADET-COLLAR-BADGES-/380237170732

Seems bizarre that collar badges are still KC rather than QC.

Do they know something we dont ??

Can't quite make out if it is U.T.C.or O.T.C. on these collars??
Maybe HOTMINICOOPER can confirm this?

Hi Guys,

Looks like UTC to me but note that A/A cap badge and collar badges are not related in terms of authorisation or procurement. This can be easily checked by looking at documents like the List of Changes where cap and collar badges are usually recorded as being approved and sealed on very different dates often years apart.

Regards

Chris

Thanks Mike,

The packaging is modern and I believe is currently used by Toye, Kenning and Spencer. It is also used for 'New Metal' badges.

The Sporran badge being NSN 8455-99-973-9812, Pattern No. 14658 is also KC and is current is issue as per JSP 768.

Regards

Chris
