Glamorgan yeomanry cap badhe
Dear forum,
I recently acquired this cap badge with a number of other items from a private collection and was looking for more information on it as its not a badge I have come across before. It appears to be a good original badge to me but any help would be greatly appreciated as always! Many thanks, |

I am afraid that this a widely copied badge. As yours is the 'imperial' version it should have been made pre-1908 and I don't believe that is the case as the style of construction is not correct in my opinion.

Definitely a modern copy I'm afraid. Take a look here for how it should look.http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...9&postcount=14

When you say in your original post "it appears to be a good original" and so on, it is actually a brief glance at the reverse which suggests, to me at least, that it cannot be original, does that really look over one hundred years old to you?

Hi Frank,
My knowledge on cap badges is sadly very limited and I'm keen to learn more about them. I'm sorry that I didnt know it was a copy but by posting on this forum I have learnt it is and can understand why. Hopefully I can use this knowledge and more I hope to learn from here in future, although comments such as yours do deter one from venturing into the world of cap badges somewhat... |

No need to feel sorry, if you simply don't know what to look for, I made mention of the reverse because it is a very clear and dead give away, without any need whatsoever to look at the obverse, the process of manufacture differed and you would certainly not expect an original to look remotely like that, so a very quick and easy way to determine a badge.
