Large Victorian Crown - who wore it ?
I have this rather impressive looking Victorian crown and I cannot find it in any of the normal books, although it must be there somewhere. It has 4 pins which make me think that it is a sleeve or a valise badge - but that is a guess. Can anyone help with a proper identification ?
Thanks Mike |

Hi Mike,
These turn up in SA quite often and is part of a three part badge. The other two parts are a wreath and a christian cross with scroll. Cannot remember what is on the scroll though. Because of the 'Victorian' type crown some people have attributed this to the chaplain department of british army during the boer war, but there is no concrete evidence to this. The other possiblity based on the cross and the wreath is that it was an early Salvation army badge, but again I could not find any evidence from Salvation Army sites. There does however appear to be some religious connection to the badges. So presantly this is still an unknown item. Of the three items the wreath appears to be the most difficult to come by. The cross is the most common followed by the crown. Steven |

Showing my ignorance here, but it's not a Warrant Officer's badge is it? RSM and such like?
