Bimetal SAS Cap Badge - Good or Otherwise ?

Not something that I'm familiar with so asking here !

A nice quality bimetal SAS cap badge on a slider. Is it genuine or a fantasy item ?

Thanks Luke, very helpful. my badge is identical to the one shown but lacks the Gaunt makers marks.

Yes it’s the same die used for a great many of them it seems Paul.

If someone can tell which (if any) are genuine they’re a better man than me.

So if Paul’s badge lacks the “Gaunt Mark” it is likely to be a copy? or could these have been made without at some point of time after the Coronation?

The SAS TA did wear a bimetal badge in the 1950s on peaked caps. Photos exist of this. Provenance is everything I am afraid.

I used to speak often to two members of the regular SAS. I put it to them that they did not wear metal cap badges. They replied they were issued with them but on their first parade were told to go to the stores and swap them for cloth badges, so metal badges are out there.

Metal cap badges were (and I believe still are) available through 'the system' with an NSN - presumably for units who want to make up cap badge boards.

Doesn't mean they're actualy worn by anyone entitled to wear a sandy lid!
