Default Khaki Jacket date?

Hi All

Can anyone date this khaki jacket on the DHY Corporal? Ignore the DHIY shoulder titles... I think he is wearing them post 1908?

Looks like the standard 1902 pattern tunic as worn in WW1.

The fixed (stitched into the shoulder seam) shoulder strap was a modification to the original 1902 design introduced in 1905 (mod announced Nov 04). Prior to that was a twisted shoulder cord, and originally there had been a removable strap with coloured edging.

The shoulder cords replaced the removable shoulder straps in 1903 under 5081c/1903 29-Jul-03 (Modification of Pattern), which saw the shoulder cords added, and changed the single hook and eye closure at the collar for two hook and eyes at collar.

My understanding is that it was only from the creation of the Territorial Force in 1908 that issues of standardised SD began to be received. Before that there was a wide variety of regimental patterns funded via County Associations, as I know you are very familiar with.

... thanks Toby. That explains the DHIY STs and also gives me a rough date for that particular POWFs cap badge that I think is this one below. That particular makers (unknown) cap badge is also seen in the later 2nd/1st DHY.
