Para. badge and S.I.H. badge
I picked these two badges at our MHS meeting yesterday. I have no idea on the chrome wings. The SIH used to have a slider buy now has only one loop. Would this badge be a good one and if so is it worth having a repair done, thanks, John.

Yes, I agree a good SIH. The veining on the heavy definition on the leaf is as required from what I have read on here.

South Irish Horse Yeomanry
John,
I would be more than happy to have your new SIH badge in my collection and well worth sending to the Menders in Tamworth! This is a badge which has been faked to death and alas copies are very common.. I would expect a genuine example sell for around £75.. / The veins as already pointed out are the key to a good badge, being crisp and deep! The seeding or texture of the leaves is also an aspect that the copies don't quite match, here are two examples which IMO are genuine, one a fraction larger with larger letters, the one with the larger letters also having more "Heart Shaped" leaf tops.. The Stalk ends differ too, but both good examples! This is one of those badges that until you've been lucky enough to handle a good one it's difficult to spot a fake! I beleive this "Veined" pattern wass worn c.1908-22 so I'd go for a slider as I suspect the luged examples, although the same size are probably collar badges? Andy |

Most Zimbabwe para wings I have seen have a falcon (?) above the canopy. Could it cut be off to make it look like French WWII parawings, or is the canopy smooth?

Interesting on the seeding Andy. I attached mine as I noticed my stalk is different to the two you show. Is mine another variant.

Simon, yours looks very much like the example I've shown with the larger letters? The stalk should bend off to the right as viewed, yours looks to have been straightened otherwise the same!

I was sweating there Andy. Thanks. I don't think I'll bend it back, or else I'll have one for the repair shop..

The French Para wings are smaller, these wings are a Shiny metal unlike the Frog ones.

The shiny chrome para badge is the Jump wing worn above the right breast pocket of the dress uniform of the Zimbabwe Para reg
