I have also considered that it is theatre made when you look at the backing. It is not a collar badge but has the size of cap badge.

Cheers

I won't comment on the badge but the verdigris looks new and if the badge is ok i feel that it has been rebronzed recently, but thats only my opinion from the picture.

I am afraid this is a copy.. There is a US based seller (Bi*****m)that has sold numerous of these over the past three years on Ebay. The metal looks like a bronze painted composite metal. There are also other samples made of this metal like the Greek sacred squadron badge and the ww1 Cycle Corps badge etc.

The only theatre made samples that I have seen are either sandcast brass, or silver samples respectively made in Egypt,Tunisia and Italy..

Thanks -I had a feeling something was about it. Also I believe only bronze OSD collar badges existed.

Cheers

That is one of the common replicas but given a bronze finish. This comes close, a North Africa made example.

You outbid me on that one. Looks like a good 2-lug sterling badge indeed, lucky bugger!

Hi Luc,

Lucky find indeed Seller told me this is one of a veteran who was killed in Arnhem, no identity though - a bit weary of these stories - but given the looks of this badge could be true-who knows?
Is this an officers version?

Cheers

If it is hallmarked silver then it is an officers badge.

Given what I previoulsy read about WW2 AAC badge, should I suppose the following is not good and, so, avoid it?
