Default Bullion SAS cap/beret badge

Recently acquired, very finely made bullion (Officers?) SAS cap badge, since I know this is a minefield, I'd like to hear your opinions about it and its presumably authenticity, vintage and so on... thank you so much in advance and all the best!

This is a link to one I am happy with as it came from a serving officer who was a friend of my father in Dering Lines when they were there 'doing something' in the late 50's/early 60's. Its from my album.
As I am currently using a small 8" laptop, low screen resolution doesn't help....

Yes indeed.
But, with the rider that it could (of course be a little older).
From memory, he was a serving Captain, so, taking into account the time it took him to attain that rank etc.... it could even be a little older, but I have no idea whether the bullion one changed during that period. He also didn't take it off his beret - there and then - it was an 'old spare'... Peter is pretty good on that period so he may be able to shed more light on its earliest useage date.
Nice one and all the best, david

Griff,
Just outside the town, on the left and under a railway bridge - on the way to Abergavenny and Hereford. I always thought it was Dering but that may be my memory. I was also at school there from 1957'ish (just moved from Famagusta after the EOKO terrorists started targetting Forces families etc) and the school then was called Brecon Secondary Technical School (I don't have to remember this as I still have my last years 'leaving certificate' signed by the then headmaster Mr Williams - what else....) - maybe the name changed when we left in 1961/2 for Thiepval Bks (Lisburn).
I remember that it was halfway up a right old steep road on the right and having to walk past the Castle Hotel to get there.
Small world isn't it......
All the best, david

Dering Lines in Brecon is named after Sir Edward Dering whose Regiment of Foot was formed in 1689. It became the 24th Regiment of Foot in 1751, and later the South Wales Borderers.

Dering Lines is now thw Infantry Battle School.

Griff,
Its only a 50% error out of the pair of us .......and you were quite close....
I am fairly sure that my inquisitiveness at the names of the various barracks that we uesd to live in meant that my father HAD to explain where the names came from - as has been mentioned.
I am off and can't work tomorrow so will be 'out of touch' until Monday morning- there is no internet (wired) in the 1968 built building I stay in - apparently its because all Germans use mobiles..........
Have a good weekend, david

Yes I do, it was run (then) by a fellow classmates parents - we were in the same class (J1, I1, M1, S1 etc) - his name was Malcolm Squirm (just as it sounds..) - a good friend - especially when he brought sweetie samples in - except when he brought in some CARAMAC bars....... Too sweet for me -even when compared to army tea - the one with bromide in.................allegedly your honour.

Back to the SAS bullion badge. I have one that I bought at Gieves and Hawkes in 1991. I will post an image later.
