Default No 2 commando cap badge

Hi Folks

I have this No2 commando badge for some time and it looks really old and also lugs look ok.

Ted sent me a link on the CO site http://www.combinedops.com/INSIGNIA%20IN%20USE.htm

It shows a posting of the son (Clive Coy) of a No2 commando veteran with a pic of his dad and his badges and what appears exactly the same badge.

I also do believe that not all NO2 commando badges were hand made from tea spoons surely the early ones but with hundreds passing NO2 commando they must also have been produced in bigger numbers.

I know this subject leads to a lot of discussions so please join
Cheers
JB

I know where you are coming from!! maybe 1,000 + passed through the ranks of No2 Commando so they cant all or being filing away. Also Peter Taylors Book mention about being produced (cant remember the exact text! my copy is still in the sea container).

i remember some threads before on the subject, i've also a example like yours and i'll keep it. you do getting some shocking examples of re-strikes of the badge!! i look forward to seeing some more replies!!

JB,
Just to support you JB. Having seen yours 'up close and personal' ... to me it looks ok. The detail is good and the lugs look to be the real Mcoy.

Ted

The No2 Cdo officer on this pic also appears to wear a machine made one similar to the one posted by you.

This is an example of a fake No2, compare the poor lugs to my good example.

Nice one JB. I remember seeing loads of these many years ago but an 'old soldier' told me to stay well away and he would get me one. a) I remembered his advice even though b) he didn't get me one, but made up for it with some IntCorp badges and a nice pair of SHAEF badges.
All th best, david

JB,
The fake you have shown is typical of the one(s) I was shown as a lad and was going to do a 'swaps' for. The WWII ex-soldier (this was back in the late 50's/early 60's) warned me off doing it. Its an anecdote thats all.
He told me that these were never produced as die-struck. For the life of me, I can't remember who he was 'with' during the war. He would never, ever talk about it and out of respect I never asked any of the ones I met 'what did you do in the war...' etc. I assume that its just possible that he was an ex-commando and had some knowledge of these things...
Rgds, David
