Slight possibility - 1st Battalion, Leinster Regiment (pre 1922)??.
Probably not though! David PS...... or possibly an Artillery battery/unit, particularly Scottish? Last edited by davidwyke; 19-02-16 at 04:29 PM. |

Could be Colonial. Not sure about NZ, did they have that many reinforcement bn's?
Australia had 90+ Bn's WW1 but I don't think they quite reached 100. India didn't have a "100" Regiment, they didn't allocate that number post 1903. Canada - possibly the 100th Regiment of Canadian Militia (1908-1920) or 100th Infantry Bn, CEF (1915-1917) (both = Winnipeg Grenadiers). No doubt the Canadian members will be able to comment on that. Can't think of any other Colonial "100". David Last edited by davidwyke; 19-02-16 at 01:43 PM. Reason: Can't spell Winnipeg! |

The motto suggests a Scottish connection and at the back of my mind I seem to think that 100 has a meaning in shooting competitions but I may be completely off the mark.
P.B.

The 100th Battalion, Cdn Expeditionary Force, was only in existance from late Dec. 1915 to Sept 1917, so probably never got to the crested note paper stage. Also, their parent unity was the 'Little Black Devils' (Winnipeg Grenadiers) whose motto is 'ADSUM' [Present], and I expect if they had a motto it would have been that.
So, IMO, this is unlikely to have a Canadian cannection. |

HMS Dreadnought
It has the look of Royal Naval letter heading.
I think it could be connected with the 1906-21 Battleship HMS Dreadnought. Check out the bulldog's head here... http://empiretocommonwealth.webs.com...albadgespd.htm Not a naval crown but the kc appears above one of the others. Might be worth putting it on the badges section of World Naval Ships Forums http://www.worldnavalships.com/forum...adges&page=358 Last edited by Empire collector; 20-02-16 at 03:37 PM. The 100th Bn was raised as the the Winnipeg Grenadiers. This was also the regimental number in the Canadian militia. The motto of the Winnipeg Grenadiers was ADSUM. The 100th was perpetuated by the Winnipeg Grenadiers; they were reduced to nil strength and transfered to the supplementary order of battle in 1965. Peter, I am not sure where you found the name Little Black Devils for that? That is the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. http://www.cmp-cpm.forces.gc.ca/dhh-...r2/rwr-eng.asp

I think we can more or less rule out "colonial" now. It does have a RN look to it but what would the "100" signify?

Bill, thanks for the additional info. That's 2 for 2 wrong posts I made yesterday. [embarassed icon here]. The Little Black devils was a 'brain fart', which I'm going to blame on the cold meds I'm taking and not on advancing senility!
