Default Harrogate Fire Guard Officer

A recent find is this interesting photo taken by a Harrogate photographer showing a splendid and most unusual Fire Guard officer's (?) uniform.

His cap badge - in the shape of the ARP badge - has the letters FG on what appears to be an enamelled background. Above his breast pocket he has the metal badge of a Local Fire Guard Instructor (F 25 in my book Doing Their Bit) and on his left arm he has a metal SJAB badge. He also has what appears to be light coloured bars, probably rank badges on his shoulder straps.

I have never seen an example of the FG cap badge. Does anyone have one?

Jon

Great find.

The cap badge looks like an enlargened/amended version of one of those fancy lozenge 'HG' lapel badges (N5 in your book!).

Either he was very fancy to go to that length of uniform - (there was arguments in Leicestershire's CD in 1944 about FG officers wanting BD, even though they were entitled to it, let alone private purchase uniforms!) - or he was seconded from the NFS to run the town's FG, as it does look like an amended NFS officer's uniform.

Love these quirks/variations from the official theme.

(PS: Did you get my email Jon? I'm concerned my email account is filtering out emails)
