Australian Troops, UK,May 1953 Getting ready for the Coronation.
For our Australian friends, some photographs of army, navy and air force personnels training for the coronation of QE 11, in May 1953,in a camp "somewhere in England".

Thanks for these, Jo. Interesting to see how the (male) army uniforms are minimalist in the extreme -- no unit distinctions and just the little white-on-brown AUSTRALIA titles. Terribly dull!

Thanks for the comments. One question. Were these the first issue of BD for the Australian Army?

Battledress was authorised around 1949-50, but took a while to be issued. The first Australian troops into Korea were still wearing WW2 service dress but with postwar shoulder titles. Later contingents had BD. Also, a local version of British BD was made and issued in Australia to certain AIF troops in WW2 -- mainly commandos, I think. It was very uncommon, though.

I know this isn't a uniform forum, but if I get some time I'll put up some photos of the WW2 Aussie battledress. Also some postwar items with shoulder titles and so forth.
