Default Georgian Montgomeryshire Militia

This is one of a few recent pick ups but this one seems to add a little more info than is included in Ripley & Darmanin.
Item 39 in R&D states that there is an “a” after the “M” for the militia element of the title. It also advises that there is no backmark.
The subject button shows no evidence of any “a” after the “M” and there is a backmark for William Williams which fits date wise for a late 18th C button.
Cofion gorau,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for sharing this mate, an interesting observation. I don't have an example myself to compare, co can't add anything to the discussion. However I have observed variations in the occasional button in comparison with Ripley, which if nothing else keeps life interesting.

I wonder if the 'M' was Militia and the 'M A' was Militia Artillery?

Well spotted though and one to look out for.

Cheerio,

Roy
