It would be wonderful to find Pattern Books, Tenders etc from Tiptaft and others !

I have heard that there are many papers from S&W in a well known firm but not available to inspection. As usual commerce comes before research.

Lets think of numbers and a time frame, 200,000 cap badges is a big order, how long would it take for one machine to strike out the badges in gilding metal?

How long would the die last?

The sliders had to be brazed on to the badges after they had been fretted and cleaned up, which was presumably done by hand.

I would say much of this order was "farmed out" to other companies, probably they would have to submit samples of their work for inspection and quality which is why some badges with named sliders appear, the work of sub-contractors.

Just a thought . . !
