Default Border regiment cutlery

Hi everyone.Can anyone tell me how old these are?they are arked 3rd battalion border regiment.Im guessing they are officers mess?no allmarks on them,just epns.thanks

The Cumberland Militia became the 3rd Bn. The Border Regiment in 1881 so a broad date range would be from then (1881) to 1908.

Apologies for playing about with the picture, the engraving is rather poor but the crown might be intended to be Victorian which would narrow the time a little.

The crown would indeed indicate when they were made, but more than likely used after 1902, also it was not unheard of to see older items in use by a successor battalion or regiment either.

Not silver so no scrap value, that's probably why they have survived. There were a load of early full sets of DLI cutlery on Ebay at very reasonable prices for months with seemingly no interest. So your 2 items probably £5-£10 each if you can get 2 collectors bidding against each other they might at a push double that.

Nice items. Shame something so scarce is nearly worthless yet a capbadge made in the 1000's can command 3 figures ...

yea,its a real shame,at least these cant be restrikes.Its the sort of thing that if you were looking for some,you wouldnt find any.might put them on sell my militaria and see how it goes.thanks.tommy t bag
