Sadly, the "climber" was decapitated!

Though perhaps our army in the 50's was this bad, but I doubt it.

I caught up with the second episode last night, I've been watching this with my 78 year old father who did his National Service there with the RASC in the 1959 to 61 period, I do have to keep reminding him that its not actually filmed there, but there are a few period clips which are nice and it is bringing back some good memories for him.

As to the plot and storyline you would almost think the only troops in Aden were the Military Police, Dad seems to recall there was always a Battalion of Infantry, Royal Marines and RAF air cover even in his day when the troubles were only really beginning?

We will carry on watching but for us its not going to be remembered as one of the great television dramas.

If you search Youtube on your father's behalf for "British Army Aden" you will find some excellent, atmospheric contemporary pre-1967 film of both Federal Regular Army and British forces. Mike

I watched this too and probably won't bother with another episode.

That Sergeant with Para wings tattoo but non on his uniform. He was so badly injured (blisters) as to be left behind, why was he picked to accompany the SAS if he was so poor a soldier? He then abandoned all his stuff including weapon to run onto the road to stop the Landrovers. Tut!

Then the poorly armed group of MP's with female reporter rush to the skirmish site, to save the day. If the ahem SAS were so poorly led as to get every man jack killed by running around like headless chickens (apt sadly) what were the motley MP group meant to do?

The last straw was the Captain ordering his wife not to befriend the drunken Lieutenant's wife, not because she was a drunk, or a state or clearly an adultress which in 1950's was no ignoring matter but because he outranked her husband. A Corporals wife I could understand... A badly put together bag of sh**e

I see another excuse to post a link to this thread on Aden, albeit circa 1967:

A chilling dose of real life & death on post 184:

Thanks for the link.

Some of the "dead wood" was thinned from the cast come the second series.
