Wow! Someone got burnt on an expensive dud!

Hope it wasn’t a forum member.

Guys, Would anyone like to share opinions as to why this is a dud? It would be really useful to let the less informed such as myself know what to avoid when thinking of buying. I realize that sharing this info would assist the crooks but we newbies rely on the experts on this forum to avoid such traps.

The main give away is that it's crudely cast. Badges from that period should be well made and pressed/stamped rather than cast like this one has been. The details on the front are also not as sharp as originals.

Thanks Mick. That obvious hey? Makes you wonder how clueless the winning bidder was.

A lot of underhanded dealers try pass off poorly cast badges as "theater made", especially for units that fought in India and N. Africa. I have never been able to tell for sure, but do have a few cast badges in my collection that I am very happy with.

This particular badge had no real age patina to it and does not look like any real theater cast badge I've ever seen.
