Default Leinster Badge, is it Victorian?

Hi all,
Just bought this badge. It appears genuine to my non expert eye. As it is lugged does that indicate it is a Victorian/Early Edwardian example?
It is full cap badge size.
Cheers
John

Shame about the break.

That is a fairly typical example, a great many were altered prior to be issued in King Edwards's day with the removal of the lugs and the addition of a slider, the fracture is not of any great significance, after all, it's not that you are going to actually wear it yourself, so I should not worry about it too much, notwithstanding, a very common badge and easily replaced if you are unhappy.

Interesting - I was unaware that lugs were removed and replaced by sliders.

The Leinster badge was authorised in February 1897, with WO Pattern no 4492/1897.

Yes, lugs were removed and replaced by sliders in 1906

"The Leinster badge was authorised in February 1897, withe WO Pattern no 4492/1897.

Yes, lugs were removed and replaced by sliders as WO below

"Labels on helmet Plate badges to be worn on new Service Dress Hats to be amended to read, Badges for Service Dress Hats to be fitted with Vertical Shanks same as Dorset Pattern No 5814/1903. Dorset badge to be fitted same as Leinster Pattern No 10010""

So that applied to "cap badges" as well as HPCs?

Yes, many extant badges had their lugs removed and then replaced with the typical slider of the period.
