Question 2nd Battalion, The Middlesex Regiment

Hi all,

The following badge I believe to be the 2nd Battalion, Middlesex Regiment foreign service helmet Officers cap badge (30x26mm with 3 lugs to rear, two-piece construction, QV crown so pre-1902 but could someone please help with a more specific dating and perhaps a reference to its wear?

Sorry Brian I know it a tease to show you this!

Cheers Dean.

Hi Dean, ORs records in the RACD often had badges sealed specifically for the FSC and the FSH but as far as ORs Mddx Regt badge goes, the only one mentioned is the 'ordinary' one (Pattern 4451/1896) sealed on 8th Sept.

For officer's you'd have to go to the DR - I'm afraid I don't have a 1900 one but I'm sure plenty of people do.

Many thanks Julian - Dress Regulations is a reference I am going to have to invest in actually as in time I am finding my standard works are not covering the badges I am picking up and the research is the fun bit. Thanks too for comments/edits on some of my King's Liverpool badges in my Variants album.

Cheers Dean.

I think this badge must be pre 1900, as it's design is not described at all in the officers DRs of that year. I suspect it is a previous version but the presence of the Albuhera honour scroll would seem odd if it were 2nd Battalion.
