349th LAA Regiment R.A. T.A.
A member has very kindly sent me some cuttings from scrapbook from the 1950`s that contains press cuttings about Cheshire T.A. units.
A mention of a Battery of 349 LAA Regiment R.A. T.A. ( R. Battery ) which was said to be located at the Myrtle Street Drill Hall in Crewe between 1947 and 1952 caught my eye. Litchfield ( The Territorial Artillery ) shows 149th Field Regiment formed at Hoylake in 1939 as a duplicate of 106th Regiment R.H.A. (Lancashire Hussars ) and reconstituted as 349th ( originally HAA ) but which after protests by original members of the unit became 349th LAA Regiment R.A. T.A. with headquarters at Hoylake . It amalgamated with 521 st LAA Regiment in 1950 without change of title but headquarters moved from Hoylake to Chester. Litchfield also notes that whilst serving in the Middle East the regiment wore a pagri badge consisting of a representation of Hoylake Lighthouse on a red and blue diamond. Does anyone have confirmation of the location of the battery at Crewe and has anyone an illustration of the pagri badge ? Thanks P.B.

Thanks Marc,
Another item to look out for, but the expression " needle in haystack" springs to mind. Peter

349 LAA Regt
Peter,
Scan from WO publication showing the official line of descent. It can be found in the PRO, Kew at WO279/242 for those interested enough to look, or lucky enough to be able to visit London (too far for a day trip from Queensland!) Stephen. |
