National Fire Service Overseas Columns
The NFS organised five columns of men and appliances to accompany the troops fighting in Europe after D Day.
The five columns were numbered and issued with arm badges as shown but I am missing one number - and I'm not sure which one it is as I can't find a list of those formed. Can anyone help please? Jon |

something i was not aware of, thanks for posting this. I found this website that you will likely have already visited but the group may be able to give further background on the columns raised. https://nfs-afs.org.uk/ Kind regards, Dave

A total of 443 France and Germany Stars were awarded to members of the ‘No 4 Column’ together with 441 1939-1945 War Medals (2 members did not complete the qualifying period). .

I always wonder what these cloth badges were. Often misidentified as Royal Artillery field Regt flashes...
Thanks for your explanations. Normandie18 |
