Thanks Simon, is there anyone else out there to comment on these badges. You are doing all the heavy lifting Simon.
Cheers

Irv,

Two issues there, fiestly a lot of the old stuff is very specialist and is within my area of expertese but very few others on here collect it, they are more WW1 and WW2.

Secondly as Luke said earlier the collection looks 90% fake, 5% original but damaged and the rest original but very common, so people are probably resigned to that outcome so dont really bother replying. Ive started commenting so I will finish.

Just my opinion

best wishes

Thank you Simon,
I have spoken to my friend about this very same thing. I’m sure that if this lot was sat in front of most collectors here they would be very happy in the chance of finding a good piece. As such the only way to show that is to post it here. But like you say most is fake or common. This guys dad bought a lot of this stuff from eBay while he was in his bed dying. I think it gave him some relief from the thoughts of passing on.
I think I will end it there and give this all back to him. He has the knowledge of the ones that you have said have a chance. The rest might or might not be good but I’ve done my bit to help him move this stuff on.
Thanks again for the help.
Regards
Irv

Irv,
It’s an all too often sad tale I am afraid of new collectors being ripped off.

I agree that you have done what you can and the results are clear.

Well done for helping.

Best wishes

Unfortunately ebay is full of fakes and the amount of them increases each year.

Since my last post the range of items has expanded to cloth, PT belt buckles, helmet plates etc.

As Simon pointed out the earlier items especially can be quite specialist and not necessarily within the knowledge or collecting areas of the majority of members of this forum who mostly focus on cap badges - myself included.

So I expect it’s a case of few feeling they have an informed opinion to give and also time. You posted 16 images/items yesterday, perhaps give other members more time to reply, not everyone comes on line every day.

I’m sorry to read about your friend’s father, a sad story and not ideal result in terms of what’s left now to dispose of. But hopefully if these things brought him some happiness and welcome distraction in his final days then they were worth it.

My overall opinion remains the same, depending on the total number of items split them into one or two large lots on eBay is probably the best advice for your friend if set on disposing of it all.

To save time put the cloth items into an album, front and back. It can be deleted later it necessary.
