Wouldn't 'Pre and Post WW2 Brass OR Cap Badges' be a more suitable title?

Hi Chris,

A very nice selection of badges. However, I’m sorry to say that the 26th Hussars example is unfortunately a “fake” based on the Gaunt design - incidentally the thumbnail picture in the Forum Cav. section displays such a fake, too, I know.

In my opinion, this badge isn’t what I’d deem a restrike, it differs substantially from the original design in several aspects; hence, the fake referral.

Best,

Marcus

Default Pre & Post...

Brass? I thought Brass ceased to be used in making badges in late Victorian times, and a new alloy introduced, being Gilding Metal.

This in turn differed from gilt metal which is a base metal coated to provide an officer quality shine (again two types existed, post Victorian badges being water gilt).

Guilt metal is what I own when the wife gets on at me about buying too many badges!

Stephen.

I would agree with this. There are a number of details that show it to be form the die used in the 1970s/80s.
