Default Glamorgan yeomanry OSD

A recent buy, what I believe according to a thread by 41st https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ight=Glamorgan to be a OSD badge for the Glamorgan Yeomanry dating to the period from 1908 to 1937 to whom as always I give thanks for his work.

It is the same desing as the OR's badge for the Monmouths though that was only ever in w/m or g/m and this is in bronzed metal.

It has obviously been converted into brooch fitting, either because it broke or as a sweetheart badge perhaps, either way a lovely badge with stunning detail.
Sadly it is not maker named and does not match exactly other examples I can find images of. It has part of the grass on the ground cut through to give an added effect not seen on other versions and the depth of the scales is pronounced.

Bryn Owen's book Glamorgan it's gentlemen and yeomanry (1983) show an image of the badge in wear and a detail pic of an example.

Outstanding quality.

Dave,

I did know this and you are not the first to point it out to me, but as yet have not seen any photographs of one in wear whereas for the Glamorgans there is such. I have seen your example in your album as it is one of my first points of call for all Monmouths related items.

It would be odd that this badge -which is to all intents and purposes the same as that used by the other ranks of the Monmouths- was not used by the officers, but it is also known that the officers of the 2nd & 3rd Bn's had their own design and some have stated that the 1st Mons used a small silver dragon on a green boss on their OSD caps.

I must admit to being somewhat envious of the two 1/mons boss badges you have in the album.

I am happy to except that it was also used by 1/Mons but it would be great to see an example being worn in a photograph of the period.

Hi Jerry,
I have a few photo’s of the Monmouthshire battalions officer’s wearing this type of badge in WW1 I will forward on, or the next time your down Shaun’s I can bring some examples.
Cheers,
Dave
