R Inniskilling Fus
A Friday afternoon badge or copy? No sweat hole. Soldier’s Friend residue in some recess.

Hi, I think the metal between the bottom of the flag and castle turret is a bad sign.
Cheers Tony.

Tony you are probably right but there are some pretty poorly struck period badges out there.

Is it metal or is it polish build up?

Metal I believe.
A genuine badge in my belief. Some fakes do have this feature which is where I believe the advice/saying has come from. The badge above is from a different die and everything about it strikes me as correct and period. |

As Luke mentioned, a genuine badge without doubt. All too many WW1 era badges were of horrible quality; but just such a "quality" that fakes do not exhibit. Judging badges by this factor alone would seem an obsolete endeavor.
