Default Rating patches

Dear all,
In the Royal Navy and Royal Marines we have ratingbadges worn on the arm. They go from Able rate 2 to Able rate 1, Leading rate and PO rate. Since 2017 even a CPO rate was introduced.
This system seems to be coupled to the rank and not a specific course or qualification within the branche, or am I wrong?
I'm asking since in the South-African navy you can find two types of rating badges : on one side you have the trade badges (technical) which are coupled to the rank just like I mention above. On the other side there are the Seaman Branches (non-technical) which denote the training the wearer has gotten going from Part 1 until instructor. This counts for instance for South-African divers.
My question now is if the UK rating badges for Royal Navy Divers, Royal Marines Swimmer-Canoeist and Royal Marines Mountainleaders are in fact Trade badges (technical) or Seaman branches (non-technical) and are, depending on what they are, either coupled to a rank or to a qualification.
Cheers,
Alain
