Bryan, from the 1873 record of the Sergeants.
386 Andrew Graham. Enlisted 27 April 1858; Corporal 13 October 1863; L/Sgt 29 October 1863; Sgt 20th September 1864; Officiating Sgt Instructor of Musketry 3 Mov 1864; Colour Sgt 13 September 1865; Sgt Instructor of Musketry 1866; re-engaged at Sterling 16 March 1868. He would have worn a pewter badge in the earlier years of his service, not sure at what date they changed to the brass version. Sgts may have worn silver plated or silver badges. Ron. |

Any thanks Ron, Andrew went on to serve with the 2nd Royal Lanark Militia after he left the 42nd. I can see why they set up the territorial system because I have found more men from Forfarshire serving with the 72nd, 78th and 79th than I have with the 42nd. Equally found as many men serving with English regiments.
Thanks again Ron. Bryan |

Five prize silver shooting spoons by the same maker as above Fredrick Benjamin Ninnes of Hythe Kent. These were all assayed in Birmingham between 1922-29. It seems the two spoons with the lower scroll in blue enamels were awarded to NCOs and their names are engraved on the reverse, RQMS P Hitchman & Cpl Patterson. The other three are unnamed. The 1st Bn were in India spending the years 22-29 in Quetta, still using a Victorian crown and the 42nd numerals.
