It is not a pilot badge. It is the Danish Air Force sidecap (Garrison Cap) cap badge as shown in pic.

I have an 'older' version of this badge and was trying to find an explanation as to why the rosette was red and black instead of the normal colour. Not until a Danish colleague mentioned that the colours were red and silver (not white as I'd thought) did I click that it was silver thread that had tarnished!
