It reminds me of the old "Starlight scope" cas s from the '70's, a googling shows this, not the same but a similar sort of thing.
A "general purpose", customise your own foam lining case similar to the Pelican range?

Thanks for the ideas everyone. The only text that was on it was hidden under red paint and as you'll see from the photo has just about disappeared.

Michael, looks like a 'Hardigg' type case but obviously vintage, it is very similar to/reminds me of, the Aussie SF transportable laptop case, i think they were called 'spitfire terminals' the valve was for air transportation. Regards Mark

I agree with Leigh,

It looks like the case I was once issued a Starlight scope in, with it's various mounts. Of course this had a lining with cut outs for these pieces.

That's my best guess.
