I'm impressed - never seen one of these before - ever! Does the size give a clue as to whether it was a unit/formation sign to be worn on the arm or perhaps a track suit badge? It's not 27 Engr Gp (a yellow grenade and scroll on a blue shield). I think it's most likely to be a semi-official sign for 27 Fd Engr Regt RE in 6 Armd Div in BAOR in the early 1950s.

So it could possibly be an RAE sign?

The seller clearly stated that it was "Royal Engineers Shield Badge XXVII"

He also said "Unusual Engineers badge of cotton thread onto a linen backing and khaki material to the rear. Not sure what the 27th Company was.
WWII patch formation sign title badge"
There is NO mention of RAE at all.

Jerry

Just received this email
""The size is 8.0 x 6.5 cms. I got it from the UK. It is quite typical for a UK manufacture. Not Australian. Suspect a sports badge or BAOR but not have any idea"
So it looks like a "sport" badge.
