Default Is it me … or are these medals all wrong?

I saw an article in the Telegraph to day portraying a veteran at the Normandy 79th anniversary. The picture is also at:

https://www.forces.net/sites/default...NO%20REUSE.jpg

Also pick up on forces.net

https://www.forces.net/d-day/veteran...ay-anniversary

The RAF fellow on the left, apparently a Normandy veteran, top row of medals: Malaya medal, Australian Vietnam medal, unk, ink, VRSM (from 1999), ukn. And as for the ones below, not a single UK or WW II?

I would suggest the error is editorial. The chap appears the correct age for the medals he is wearing, but not old enough to be a Normandy veteran by about 20 odd years.

Chap on the right mind you has a France & Germany Star, so is more likely to be a candidate for being a Normandy veteran.

Cheers……John

There is an editorial error , the person is named as Terry Burton who is connected to the Normandy Veterans Association/Group.

From Hansard , a 2004 debate about the 60th Anniversary of D-Day/Normandy:
Quote:
It is estimated that about 10,000 British veterans survive. Some 8,000 are members of the Normandy Veterans Association.
I am proud that one branch is in my constituency of Chipping Barnet, and its chairman, Councillor Terry Burton, tells me that it has 40 members.
Also an American newspaper from last year :

Veteran of three services
Quote:
a Valdosta man who made the poppy wreaths, and had served in the Royal Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force and the U.S. Air Force, held elective office, became deputy mayor of London and also served as President Ronald Reagan's military attache, Terry Burton.

Postwar, he joined the RAF and eventually became a pilot flying C-130 Hercules transport planes.

He saw combat action in the Vietnam War.

He now heads up a Normandy Veterans Group online

Thanks Mike,

To sum it up, here is the final comment before the thread was locked.

It is a totally pointless exercise medalically (is that even a real word?) dissecting someone's poorly constructed non-career.

regards

Mike,

Thank you for your response, yes an unfortunate editorial mistake but what a remarkable career Terry has had. The USAF connection explains the extraordinary number of medals ?.

The US article says he "became deputy mayor of London" when he was actually the deputy mayor of Barnet (a London borough).

Is it possible that he was "attached" to an Australian unit rather than being enlisted in one ?

Quote:
Through the use of joint commands between allied nations, he was moved first from the RAF to the Royal Australian Air Force and then from the Australians to the U.S. Air Force.
