Army Educational Corps
Four AEC badges for comment please.
No 1. (going L to R top to bottom) is a brass cast badge which has had the lugs cut off and a 'Lambourne Birmingham' slider attached. I think the badge is OK but the slider??? No 2. A die stamped badge which again has had the lugs removed and a tapered slider added (badly). No 3. A die stamped badge with no signs of lugs having been fitted. Modern looking slider and different die to 2 above. Also, as with 1 above the pennons are voided. No 4. A die stamped badge on footed lugs. This badge is slightly larger than the others and has non-voided pennons. Were there two sizes of badge? Fakes/genuine? When did footed lugs first appear? Were there both Lugs and slidered badges? A few questions, but any other observations/comments greatly appreciated, and as usual, thanks in advance. |

Well I am surprised. Seven days since posting, 96 views and not one comment! This must be a badge that does not warrant consideration!

Can you post individual pictures of each. Due to forum size limit I suspect both pics are very poor resolution - little better than thumbnails when zoomed in.
Re the footed loops Q. You’ll find loops with feet shown in the early 1900 Gaunt catalogue, if however you mean ‘dustbin lid’ type feet then answer is 1970s and after. There is a AEC in the Marsh catalogue, I’ll post a pic when I’ve dug it out. From memory it had thick border to the scrolls and nasty Toys R Us lettering and the solid pennons. I suspect badge No 4 will be one. So far a Lambourne made AEC has not been identified, close ups inc. the mark would be helpful. Edit: added pic. |

AEC sand cast badge
The sand cast badge I think is a genuine theatre made badge, the loops on these are often very inferior and tend to break and I think someone has repaired it with a slider that just happens to have "Lambourne" stamped on it.
