Default Scottish horse

I've always assumed that this item from my collection is a sweetheart, or a veteran's badge, or perhaps even something one could buy from a regimental museum. It measures 5cm top to bottom and 3cm wide. No makers marks that I can see. Could anyone shed some more light on it for me please?

Thanks Andy!

It's quite large and weighty. I always thought that sweethearts were small, designed for lapels etc. But I am no expert and here to learn. Thanks again

Hi RSM,
Your badge could well be an officer's badge.
I have one the same size and similar solid construction but with 2 lugs E-W.
Cheers, Tinto

Hi Tinto,

There's no evidence on mine of the lugs having been replaced with a pin. And I assume that a pin-back would not be 'man enough' to survive the rigours of service? Funnily enough since my original post above I have found a picture of an example on Pinterest exactly as mine, and it's tagged as a sweetheart brooch. My brain hurts sometimes
