Hi mikerj, Welcome to the Forum. What are the dimensions of the patch?
The colours of the insignia and the style (colours shown in diagonal arrangement) are similar to 7 Division, Canadian Army, Second World War. It was a home defence division. However, Canadian patches are usually rectangular, 2 by 3 inches.

Do the markings - manufacturer's name and date - give any clue? I would say East or West African.

Default More info

Gentlemen, thank you for your help, more info.

The patch is 1-7/8" square
Pugaree bands are 8 total 5 khaki then green red and black on top.

makers mark inside but unable to read clearly looks like a logo "Laro Hat"?
the Laro is in script over the HAT in capital print

The snap that holds the side up is stamped NEWEY ENGLAND on the inside of the hat.

Hope this helps

Rules out the Canadian possibility. The patch appeared light gray on my monitor. And if the patch is square, it is not Canadian.

Black/Red/Green would normally indicate a Rifles link - perhaps to a KAR Battalion?

I have seen other KAR slouch hats with the colours in the pugaree, so I'm fairly certain it is KAR related but not sure what the side flash is

Perhaps the slouch hat has been cleaned and the colours of the patch have mixed in the proces?
It might also help to repost this in the Australian/New Zealand section?

Rgds,
Thomas.
