Worcestershire Yeomanry RA WW2
I have just seen regtl photos of the 3 Worcs yeomanry airlanding 210, 211 and 212 btys in WW2. Great big panoramic regtl photos in rows. c.1943/4
2 interesting points: Maroon berets but all the ORs had full sized gun cap badges. Not the Worcs yeo badge nor the grenade collar. The officers were wearing half size embroidered Worcs badge. Alan Last edited by Alan O; 10-07-13 at 05:33 PM. |

Are the photos in the Museum in Worcester? This impeccably dressed officer is excellent!

I would certainly like to see any photo's involving the Worcester Yeomanry.
A family interest for me as my grandfather, who was career Royal Artillery, ended his last few years of service as a gunnery instructor for the QOWH back in the 1930's. Here is a photo i have of him taken in Worcestershire during the 1930's period. Regards,Martin. |

Hi you'll find these photos on Paradata.org.uk Hint: You'll have to search for the unit on there as worcester or air landing light Regt.
There is nothing unusual in the WY wearing the insignia as described. It was usual for the 'Other Ranks' in Yeomanry units converted to RA during the war to wear the Grenade or the gun badge. The Officers as described wore WY insignia, but the junior officers also wore metal collars as capbadges. |

I have seen at least one publication stating that the Worcs Btys wore the full size 1908 pattern cap badge, This would seem to be wrong and its use ceased in WW1.

My grandfather served in the 53rd Airlanding. I have his original maroon beret (albeit somewhat worn!) I'm currently in the process of trying to get his complete service history. He told me many things about his service, from training in UK to the end of the war in Palestine.
