Somerset LI titles
Calling all experts!
I have recently been offered a pair of Somerset light infantry shoulder titles. They are (or appear to be) hand embroidered dark yellow thread letters SOMERSET L.I. on dark green wool background. The ends of the titles are square and the backing is a black tightly woven cheese cloth. They have some light ageing to them. Are these original and what period would they be from? Thanks, CB |

I believe these titles are post 1945 when all the light infantry regiments wore these colours for shoulder titles as opposed to the white on red for other line regiments. Without seeing them I would say they are genuine.

Thanks, I think they are original as well. Any info as to just when these type of titles came out?

Somerset L.I. titles
Having discussed this matter with a friend who has more knowledge than I on cloth badges, he said that some were worn in the Western Desert 1941-43, he did not say which regiment and again this is unconfirmed.
I have several of the light infantry titles in my collection and I would say that they came into being post 1942. |

Officially the yellow on rfile green shoulder designation SOMERSET L.I. was sealed on the 31st August 1949, and fomally introduced in April 1950.
