Default The long arm of the repro...

Went to my local auction yesterday and was asked if I could look at a accumulation of badges that would be coming up in one of their general sales. There were literally bags of all sorts from world badges to Commonwealth and GB.

I felt sorry for the young guy who had been asked to catalogue them but even I could tell that there were some "rare" badges that always seem to be quite "available".

I told him that it was best to list them as "may contain restrikes" and passed on what I've learned from being on the Forum and reading the posts of those with far greater knowledge than I can ever hope to acquire.

I was able to assure him that the vast number of staybrites were probably "safe" but even then I'm probably in error...

His comment was that he thought that they "looked too new". Bless.

And the reason for the subject line of this post? I live around 12,000 miles away from the UK but it goes to prove that they are EVERYWHERE.

Once again, in many cases you wonder what buyers and sellers are getting for the commission they pay to the Auction House.

Yes, indeed. I guess that there might be the off wee gem hidden in there but it would be a bit hit and miss.

With the badges were a stack of letters and invoices and catalogues that added, well, nothing to the value of the items.
