Hi Gerwyn,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but both of your 16th collars are modern copies.

Hi JT

Thank you for the photo. I still cant get over why they would they go to all that trouble in making a repro, which looks a better quality than the original.

Just did a search on line, and I found one that was identical to mine, tried to copy and paste it, but it didn't work on here.

Hi Kevin

Your not a bearer of of bad news.

When I bought them, I just liked them, and they went with John Gaylor's Pals section.

Apart from my Regiments of the Line in 1914 which I hope are genuine, the rest I called my odds and sods.

Thank you all, you’ve rekindled my interest again in my badges.

When I did a search on the Middlesex Works badge, the one I found that looked like the one I have, it had a makers mark stamp on the rear, the makers were Firmin London established in 1655, so I went and checked mine by using a magnifying glass, never noticed or looked for one before, mine had the makers mark Firmin London stamped on it.

It'd be great to see the maker mark on your Public Works badge, Gerwyn. As I'm sure you're aware, perfectly good close-ups can be taken using your phone and a jeweller's loup, or other sorts of lenses.

Notwithstanding the poor photo, if I had just seen the reverse I would have said it looks like a kosher full size Firmin marked OSD collar with a fake scroll added. What looks like w/m parts on the front though may suggest otherwise.

Hi dubaiguy

OSD means.

No w/m on it.

Hello Gerwyn, OSD = Officer’s Service Dress , as said it does very much look like an OSD collar badge especially the rear, with parts added certainly not an original Public Works badge , as far as I’m no aware they weren’t any with a maker mark & only with sliders not loops & originals have a distinctive shape in that the scroll ends are a lot flatter, also the fixings of the scroll has 3 again distinctive larger tabs to secure it to the badge .

Hi Gerard.

Thank you for this information.

The one I seen with the stamp on, I couldn't down load.

The mark is Firmin.

These are known fakes commissioned by a dealer some years ago.
