beret industries khaki beret 1945 with WG badge
looks to be an original 1945 dated Beret Industries LTD khaki beret, good condition but oddly with a welsh guards bullion cap badge on it, which seems to be a cut down shoulder strap badge from the scarlet tunic.
it has a clear 1945 date as well as a WD Z marking for 1945. it is named inside to 3241836 R. MacKenzie which I think is from the WWII block of numbers for the Camerionians (Scottish Rifles) and his last 4 digits is repeated twice inside the headband. You can see it has had at least one other badge upon it, possibly 2 from holes inside where the badge goes.

Thanks. Even if the WG badge is spurious to it, it's a lovely WWII beret for not a lot.

It once had a vertical badge on it and the holes certainly appear to be appropriate for WG. I can even see the split pin indentation clearly.
Can't say why or when the current badge was sewn on of course. If that name and number is Cameronians, it makes no sense as I think the beret likely to be WG all along. CB

Perhaps he was Cameronians to start, was transferred to WG, but I believe you keep your original army number even after transferring units

Paul, do you have a time period for this?

He was awarded the LSGC in Army Order 86 of 1947. Qualifying period at that time was 18 years so would put his enlistment date at circa 1929....

I don't know, but as I write, if transferred you keep your original army number?
