I found some great items for my collection this year, this Edwardian officers blue field service cap for the South Wales Borderers is probably the best, but I also picked up a late great war or early post war Wolseley sun helmet (named to private Dacon) which I had long wanted, and a few badges were objects of desire for some time, including this really rough Lambournes Glamorgan yeomanry badge (which they often are) as well as badges for the Montgomeryshire Imperial Yeomanry and most recently a Forage cap for the 11th Hussars named to Allenby.
If pushed to pick only one, I would say the SWB officers cap is the star for this year.

Some lovely items shown in this thread, thanks to all for sharing. I'll post mine soon.
Jerry, with regards to your Glamorgan Yeomanry badge, you say Lambournes, but specifically which maker mark? Lambourne & co or Lambourne's ? Thanks in advance. Richard. |

Steve,
This is always one of my favorite threads. It's great to see everyones best pieces for this year, great fun.. I had two stand outs this years: A HM silver Irish Militia button from 1804/5. And a Great War 'winged' Despatch Rider patch of a previously unrecorded design. Well done everyone and keep them coming. Cheerio and happy collecting, Roy

Roy,
I love the button. Chester hallmark rather than Dublin? regards

Thanks Simon,
I don't think it's Chester but rather Birmingham or Sheffield. A great piece though and an important piece in my collection. Cheerio, Roy

It would have been the G Squadron 22 SAS beret that my brother found in an antique shop but I had my fears and after a discussion on here they were confirmed...
I did however pick up a UKSF general staff officer's beret a few months ago. It has virtually no age to it, but I do have the provenance, so very happy |

Probably the Royal Marine Artillery Officer's Grenade worn 1878 to 1905. I also managed to pick up the wide neck version and the SNCO's gilt version.

Plastic Economy Education Corps
Well finally obtained an Education Corps plastic economy, (Pennon tips missing!), which has filled a hole in the frame which can now be mounted, didn't think I would get one so here is hoping the Coronet for the Royal Irish Fusiliers will eventually be found?
Can live with its condition as have seen plenty of metal badges with same problem, all the best billy |

My find of the year was not even mine! It was finding what I did in the magic tin I offered to sort for the antiques centre
