Interesting memorial plaque

Gents, for interests sake, I found this plaque on the wall of an upper floor, tucked away in the corner of the Royal Courts of Justice, London. Presumably it had been moved from it's original location as it was now sited in a new build annex (Rolls Building)

It is a shame that it has been moved from its original position but it good that it has survived and is on display. I have a brass was memorial plaque in my collection that was removed from a London bank and placed in a skip. The bank was later demolished to make way for a new build.

At least he is still being remembered and brought to the attention of those who pass by. There must have been thousands of similar personal memorials of this type from colleagues etc, all over the world, I'm sure.

Very poignant indeed, have to say I always try and visit Parish Churches on my travels to view similar plaques, amazing what history is lurking there sometimes.

Years ago I visited a parish church in Sydney's inner west where, of all things, they had a memorial hanging on the wall to Frederick Whirlpool VC, of Crimean War fame. Not only the memorial, but they had his VC as well!

All very interesting.

A quick check on the CWGC revealed that 2nd Lt Thompson has no known grave and is commemorated on the extraordinary memorial arch at Thiepval.
