A lot of the EW looped badges you show have modern footed loops, lack of reverse detail/depth to the flames and the one in the other thread has the pitting to the flames synonymous with the repros.
Martin Marsh did a convincing line of these. I would support Alex’s observations re fixings. Im not saying all are fake but I don’t recall seeing one I consider genuine. Looking at the backs of your E-W looped examples in I would discount 3 immediately as repos. The one second from the left looks more promising but I’d need close ups to be sure. |

Can someone put picture of what is considered original RMA badges on here for me. I need to see what the differences are. You say the E-W badges were faked by some guy, are the N-S faked as well? I know fakes are out there, especially for the expensive badges, but why fake a five pound badge??? Not worth the time and effort?

Member Luke has done some magnificent work on Martin Marsh fakes and as a badge collector you really should already know about him, but clearly you dont, so please research him on here to see the scale of his fakery. regards

It’s a shame if they are all fake as I bought at least one of these from a member😳
I did a search on marsh and got a number of hits but can’t find any showing pictures of RMA badges. I have to post each one and see if it’s a fake or not as I had no idea these cheap badges were faked so prolifically. I hope you will help me sort out this mess. Regards Irv |

I am unsure why you think these are cheap badges? They are not. On dealers sites they are anything from £18 - £25 each, substantially more than most WW1 Infantry Regiment badges, which you must know are faked in huge amounts. regards

Sorry Simon,
I’m thinking of badges that cost hundreds not tens. |

I’ve posted my badges, I would appreciate your help to see if any are worth keeping or destroyed as fakes.

Sorry, looks like I've opened a can of worms, so it would be nice to get more opinions. Having seen the rear of the 4 badges you posted with E-W lugs, I don't really like any of them.

Cheers Alex. Any particular reason? We are all here to learn.

Irv - it's the splayed out 'feet' where the lug is welded to the rear of the badge. This is generally indicative of copies and not found on original period badges. Unfortunately as the guys above state, it would appear they are found on some of your east/west lugged badges..

Thanks!
Just checked and all the E-W lugged badges have Splayed feet. And number 8 on the other thread I started (N-S) lugged badge has. Is this a definite text to say ‘Fake’? |
